Street Law
April 15, 2008

For most of this year, a group of SUPAR students have been working with Dave Dupee from Marquette learning about law; different types of law, procedures, etc. After winter break, the students received a case: Lawrence & The Metro City Police Department v. Brooks (the plaintiff). They learned everything they could about the case and the different people involved in the case. They each took on specific roles, but needed to know all the roles just in case someone was ill for the competition.

On the evening of Wednesday, April 9 Jalisa Bivens, Maurice Gross, Courtney Hollis, Cierra Johnson, Trenise Johnson, Raymond Lee, Marco Lira, Antonio Manion, Mario Ordaz, Jesus Quiles, Ana Velasquez, and Jaquail Williams competed in the semi-finals at the MIlwaukee County Courthouse in front of two different judges and a jury. Their first case was before the Honorable Lindsey Draper. Their second case was before the Honorable Kitty Brennan. They did an amazing job as witnesses and attorneys. They worked together as a strong team. It was incredible to watch!

On Thursday, April 10, the students went to the Federal Courthouse in the morning to discover that their scores put them into the top two teams. They would compete in the finals in front of a Federal Judge! SUPAR came in First Runner Up in the Marquette Law School Street Law Competition. Again, they did an awesome job. We are VERY proud of them! They represented themselves and the school well.
